Hyderabad: An AIMIM functionary was stabbed to death by a group of assailants near his home in Vattepally in Falaknuma area on Sunday night, with police probing whether the killing was linked to a long-standing family grudge stemming from suspicions of black magic.Mohammed Mahboob Ali, 53, a resident of Fatima Nagar in Vattepally, was an AIMIM worker who operated a dosa stall and had recently ventured into real estate.According to police, Ali left his house around 9.15 pm to buy food from a hotel in the locality. After purchasing food, he stopped about 100 metres from his house to speak with an acquaintance.While the two were talking, six persons arrived on two motorcycles and allegedly attacked Ali. “The group launched a sudden attack on Ali without any provocation. The accused attacked him multiple times with butcher knives and fled from the spot,” Falaknuma ACP MA Javeed said.After being alerted by a local resident, the victim’s relative, Mohammed Abed Hussain, rushed to the spot and shifted Ali to a hospital in Shalibanda.“While he was being taken to the hospital, my father told Abed that he was attacked by local man, Mohsin, and others. My father later became unconscious, and he was declared brought dead at the hospital,” Ali’s son Mohammed Shahnawaz stated in his complaint to police.Investigators said Mohsin is the nephew of Ali’s late brother-in-law, Khaleel, who died of a kidney ailment two years ago.“Preliminary probe indicates that Mohsin and his family suspected that Ali had performed black magic and caused Khaleel’s death. The victim’s family suspects that Mohsin might have killed Ali to take revenge for Khaleel’s death. But the exact cause can only be ascertained after we arrest Mohsin,” a senior police officer said.Police on Monday picked up two juveniles who allegedly participated in the attack along with Mohsin. One of the motorcycles used in the crime was seized, while two knives were recovered from the scene. Special teams have been formed to trace Mohsin and other absconding accused. Mohsin works in a hotel.AIMIM MLC Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi and Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen visited the victim’s family and interacting with residents. “Ali was our party’s Vattepally area president. Family members suspect the involvement of a relative. Police are investigating,” the MLC said.Police registered a case under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Mohsin and others.
