NEW DELHI: Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has been barred from performing four of his songs, including “Patiala Peg”, at his November 15 concert in Indore, with authorities citing the alleged promotion of liquor and violence and its possible impact on children, officials said on Saturday.Other songs covered by the restriction are “5 Tara Theke”, “Jeb Vicho Feem” and “Jatt Fire Karda”, PTI reported. The District Child Protection Officer sent the directions to the manager of the concert venue after receiving a complaint from Chandigarh-based Dr Punditrao Dharenavar, officials said.

The letter to the venue manager pointed out that children above five years of age would be allowed to attend the show, and cautioned that the four songs might have an adverse effect on them.It also cited a July 22, 2019, order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. That order instructed police in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to ensure that songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs and violence are not played, including at live shows, noting the possible impact of such material on young children. In his complaint, Dharenavar referred to the same high court order and asked the authorities to stop Dosanjh from performing the four songs, even with altered lyrics. He further requested curbs on the singer bringing children onto the stage and on his wearing two crossed silver bullet belts, also called bandoliers, or dummy metallic silver cartridges across his chest during the performance.
