This is all, including the crow-stepped gables, turret stairs, and traditional shot holes. The castle also has a dramatic main hall, which splits into a dining and living area, and also features a massive walk-in stone fireplace. It also includes a sitting room with an Adam-style fireplace, a library, a butler’s pantry, and a small chapel within the property itself. While the structure of the kitchen has not been changed much, most of the equipment present on the property has been installed and modernized to ensure that anyone can freely use it. On the outside, the residence also has its own dedicated gardener’s cottage, which has also been included in the sale separately. Rather than leaving it alone as a gardener’s cottage, they turned it into a three-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage across the Gadie Burn, which is suitable for use as guest quarters, staff housing, or a holiday rental. The house reportedly dates back to around 1560–1580; however, it was later expanded in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Rose Leslie’s great-grandmother, Maria Luz de Landa y Escandón, who was the daughter of a former governor of Mexico City, married into the Arbuthnot-Leslie family, which helped cement the home’s place in their lineage.Originally, the house was repossessed from her father, and later, around the same time, the home was sold off to private owners who restored the roof, rainwater systems, and interiors, running it as a commercial holiday and wedding venue. The castle’s official website has a detailed section about its history and who has owned furniture and spent time in these rooms. The house is now on sale for USD 1.54 million.DISCLAIMER: Figures presented in this article are derived from various public sources and are considered approximate unless explicitly noted.
