3 former executives of healthcare firm booked for data theft

Hyderabad: The cybercrime police of Hyderabad have registered a case of cheating and data theft against three former senior executives of a city-based healthcare company for allegedly downloading and deleting confidential company data before abruptly resigning from their jobs. The case was registered on Oct 22 based on a complaint lodged by a representative of the Banjara Hills-based company. The complainant named the former executive director and COO, the former executive director and CEO, and the former lead of innovation as accused. All three joined the company between July and Aug 2026 and resigned between Sept 24 and 26.According to the complaint, a company administrator noticed deletions from the accounts of the COO and the lead of innovation, dating back to Aug 31, while blocking the resigned employees’ access to their official email accounts. “A subsequent forensic examination by a city-based private forensic lab found that 3,112 files were downloaded from COO’s account on the night of Sept 22-23,” the complainant alleged. The complainant further alleged that 83 files, including business plans, financial models, pricing data and patient-flow material, were subsequently deleted and removed from the recycle bin. The company alleged that the exits were coordinated, stating that the accused had attended a closed-door team meeting at the Hyderabad office on Sept 23 and subsequently became unreachable.“The company has serious reason to believe that the data may remain on personal laptops or devices, or may have been transferred, copied, synchronised or shared with third parties,” the complaint stated. The company issued notices to the three former employees on Oct 4, asking them to explain the deletions and preserve all relevant records and devices. “The former COO and CEO denied the allegations in their replies on Oct 5, while lead of innovation has not responded,” the complainant told police. The complainant has asked police to seize the accused’s laptops, phones and cloud accounts and to seek a look out circular against the former COO. The police have booked the three under Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act and Sections 303(2) (theft), 316(4) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the BNS. Police said they were collecting evidence to verify the allegations.
