Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday said the end of ‘vote chori’ would mark the beginning of the end of the BJP’s rule at the Centre. Addressing a public meeting in Miryalaguda, he said the campaign against alleged electoral manipulation had gathered nationwide momentum under the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.“The fight against ‘vote chori’, which poses a grave threat to the country’s democratic electoral process, has now reached a decisive stage. Rahul Gandhi is leading this battle from the front with courage and determination,” he said. Uttam alleged that the BJP was weakening democratic institutions to perpetuate itself in power and urged Congress workers and citizens committed to democracy to join the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi.Expressing confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Uttam said the country was looking forward to seeing him become Prime Minister. “Rahul Gandhi will become the next Prime Minister, and the Congress will return to power in Telangana for a second consecutive term,” he predicted.He attributed the decline in rainfall and water availability to El Nino conditions that affected the southwest monsoon across Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Despite the difficult situation, the state govt was regulating Nagarjuna Sagar water judiciously while preserving sufficient reserves to meet drinking-water requirements during the summer, he said.The minister further assured that six ongoing lift-irrigation schemes in the Nagarjuna Sagar–Miryalaguda region would be completed during the present govt’s term. He said the govt had accelerated the works by providing additional funds. He reiterated that the long-pending SLBC tunnel would be completed by June 2028, bringing irrigation water to several lakh acres across the erstwhile Nalgonda district.
