Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday alleged that farmers in Wanaparthy district were facing frequent power cuts and inadequate irrigation water, and accused the Telangana govt of failing to address their problems.Addressing the gathering in Pebbaru town, KTR said farmers in Gummadam and Pebberu had complained that they were getting electricity for only five to six hours a day, contrary to officials’ claim of 12-hour supply. He alleged that power supply was being interrupted 10 to 12 times a day, resulting in motors and starters getting damaged.He alleged that the present govt had brought back the problems of power cuts that farmers had faced in the past. He also expressed concern over the irrigation situation under the Jurala ayacut.KTR claimed that although 248 tmcft of water had reached the Krishna river, only about 18 tmcft had been released under Jurala. He alleged that the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation pumps were not being operated and that the project had received no more than 10 tmcft of water.The BRS leader said the Jurala ayacut covered around 1.1 lakh acres and warned that BRS would not allow farmers’ lands to dry up. He demanded that the state govt take immediate steps to ensure adequate water for irrigation.KTR also alleged that the govt had delayed Rythu Bandhu payments on three occasions and failed to pay the Rythu Bima premium, causing hardship to farmers.On the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, KTR claimed that around 90% of the project had been completed during the previous BRS govt. He alleged that the Congress govt was delaying the remaining works because it did not want former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao to receive credit for the project.
