Cops’ drug biz bid goes bust; two constables of EAGLE in H-NEW net | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A routine investigation to track a peddler ended up in a shock discovery for a team of Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) cops recently. The peddlers they caught were two cops of the state’s elite anti-drug agency EAGLE who were allegedly attempting to sell seized 1kg of ecstasy pills worth about Rs 50 lakh. The two constables – Swamy and Narahari – were on several earlier occasions even rewarded for highly successful anti-drug operations, officials said.According to cops, Swamy, who works in EAGLE’s railway regional wing, had stumbled upon the contraband a few days ago. He shared the information with constable Narahari and the two allegedly chose not to disclose the seizure to their higher-ups and retained the drug.As they had consumers’ data meant for surveillance, the duo allegedly misused it. Acting as clandestine peddlers, they contacted a few peddlers offering to sell the drug, police said.“One of them was already under H-NEW radar. While questioning the peddler, H-NEW cops got a lead about an unknown peddler. When they traced the peddler, it turned out to be the two EAGLE constables,’’ a source told TOI.A probe was launched after the matter was brought to the notice of EAGLE director Sandeep Shandilya. The two cops for now have been kept away from all work.“Perhaps due to greed they misused their official capacity and committed the offence. I want to make sure that good work will be rewarded and at the same time black sheep will be handled ruthlessly. They will be booked in a criminal case after completing the procedure,’’ Shandilya said.
