Two Class X boys apprehended in Nalgonda school principal’s murder | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: More than a week after the murder of private school principal Roopa Reddy in Nalgonda district, police apprehended two Class 10 students of the same school on Wednesday, alleging that they conspired to rob her house and ended up killing her when she caught one of them in the act.According to Nalgonda police, Roopa was found murdered inside her house on Aug 11 while she was alone. She had been stabbed 27 times. After the murder, police formed multiple teams and investigated several possible angles. As the probe progressed, investigators began focusing on people familiar with the victim and her routine, including students and staff of the school.“Following the murder, we noticed that two students were suddenly spending money lavishly and partying with their friends. This raised suspicion, and we took both juveniles into custody on Wednesday morning,” Nalgonda superintendent of police Sharat Chandra Pawar said.Police seized Rs 1.51 lakh in cash and an iPhone from one of the juveniles. The boy initially claimed that the money had been given to him by his parents. However, forensic examination of the cash detected traces of human blood, the SP said. The two boys, police said, had a habit of consuming liquor. Investigators also found that one of them was particularly interested in riding and driving bikes and cars and wanted to make easy money.According to the police, the juvenile had come under the principal’s scrutiny about 15 days before the murder. Roopa and some school staff had found him carrying a mobile phone and cash in a bag, following which he was reprimanded. The principal subsequently decided to move him out of the hostel and allow him to attend only regular school. His parents were also informed and they were upset over his conduct, police said.Police said the juvenile subsequently decided to target Roopa’s house, believing she would have a substantial amount of cash there on Aug 11 as it was a day when school fees were being collected. The plan was allegedly set in motion about five days before the murder. The juveniles procured gloves and a knife and conducted a recce of the area, including the location of CCTV cameras, to avoid detection, the SP said.On Aug 11, one of the juveniles allegedly scaled the compound wall of Roopa’s house and entered the premises while the other waited outside. The juvenile inside allegedly began stealing cash. When Roopa, who was talking on the phone, noticed him inside the house, he feared that she would identify him and report the theft to the police. The juvenile then allegedly attacked her with the knife, stabbing her 27 times and killing her.Police said the accused fled with about Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. After the murder, the juvenile allegedly disposed of the clothes he was wearing in a drain in an attempt to destroy evidence. The two juveniles have been apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. The process of shifting them to a juvenile home is ongoing.
