The actor and content creator recalled how a family shopping trip in Delhi turned into an unexpected encounter with the police.Bhuvan Bam also opened up about convincing his parents to let him pursue content creation. At the time, he wanted to stay away from a conventional job and build something of his own. The creator eventually asked his parents for two years to prove his decision could work. Bhuvan Bam wanted to pursue YouTube

Bhuvan Bam had to overcome his family’s expectations before establishing himself online. He recalled how difficult it was to convince his parents that he did not want to follow the traditional career route. “I had to convince my parents ki nahi bharne mujhe bank ke forms. Mujhe nahi job karni,” Bhuvan recalled while speaking at the Storyboard18 Global GenZ Summit. He had spent years following the choices expected of him. This included maintaining a particular hairstyle and dressing formally. Instead of immediately going against his parents, Bhuvan Bam proposed giving himself a fixed period to prove his decision. He asked them to allow him two years to pursue YouTube. He also assured them that he would follow their wishes if the experiment failed. Around that time, BB Ki Vines began gaining momentum. The channel eventually reached around 600,000 subscribers.

A trip to Sarojini Nagar changed everything

One particular memory from those early days remains special to Bhuvan Bam. He had taken his mother to Sarojini Nagar in Delhi because she wanted to shop. The outing soon became much more eventful than expected. After Bhuvan stepped out of the car, people began recognising him. A small group of fans quickly turned into a much larger crowd. Bhuvan Bam’s mother was reportedly confused by the sudden attention surrounding her son. The situation escalated when the police arrived. Instead of immediately recognising Bhuvan as a popular YouTuber, they suspected him of being involved in a theft.

Police thought Bhuvan Bam was a pickpocket

Bhuvan Bam recalled that his appearance may have contributed to the misunderstanding. He had long hair at the time and often wore a bandana. “Waha police wale aaye, wo mujhe collar se pakad ke le gaye wo bole ‘Tune jeb maari kisi ki?’ Maine kaha ‘maine jeb nahi maari’. Uss time bohot lambe baal hote the aur main bandana pehen ke ghumta tha. (Then the police came, grabbed me by my collar and took me away. They asked, ‘Did you pick someone’s pocket?’ I said, ‘I didn’t pick anyone’s pocket.’ At that time, I had very long hair and used to walk around wearing a bandana),” recalled Bhuvan. He then tried to convince the officers that he was a YouTuber. Bhuvan showed them videos from BB Ki Vines to establish who he was. Meanwhile, the crowd continued chanting his name. The police eventually understood the situation and allowed him to leave.

Bhuvan Bam’s mother finally saw the impact

The incident took on a different meaning for Bhuvan Bam after they left Sarojini Nagar. While returning home, he looked towards his mother through the rearview mirror. He noticed that she was smiling. For Bhuvan, her reaction became the most memorable part of the entire experience. His mother had witnessed strangers recognising her son in large numbers. That moment appeared to give her a glimpse of how far his unconventional career was beginning to take him. The episode therefore became more than an amusing misunderstanding. It also represented a moment when Bhuvan Bam’s mother could see the impact of his work for herself.

Bhuvan Bam moves towards ‘The Revolutionaries’

Bhuvan Bam has since expanded his career beyond digital content. After establishing BB Ki Vines as a major online brand, he moved into acting and other creative ventures. His next project is the period drama series ‘The Revolutionaries’. The series is directed by Nikkhil Advani. The upcoming show is scheduled to premiere on September 11, 2026.
