Yash is returning to cinemas with ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ nearly four years after the blockbuster success of ‘KGF Chapter 2’. As the countdown to the August 26 release continues, the Geetu Mohandas directorial is already generating considerable interest among moviegoers. According to Mid Day, advance bookings opened on August 21, and the early response has prompted exhibitors in Mumbai to increase the number of screenings. Several cinemas have reportedly scheduled shows as early as 6 AM, while some venues have added late-night screenings extending up to 11.45 PM. The expansion of show timings comes as multiple opening-day shows reportedly approach full occupancy, signalling strong anticipation for Yash’s return to the big screen.
‘Toxic’ advance booking fuels theatre expansion
The demand for Toxic is not limited to additional shows. Mumbai and Bengaluru have also witnessed steep premium pricing for select screenings. In Mumbai, the most expensive ticket being reported is around Rs 2,600 including taxes, while premium screenings in Bengaluru have reportedly reached approximately Rs 2,181. Several multiplexes in the two cities have tickets priced above Rs 1,500.
Yash addresses ‘Toxic’ backlash in Hyderabad
The buzz around ‘Toxic’ received another boost during the film’s promotional event at Malla Reddy University in Hyderabad on Saturday. Speaking before a large gathering of students and fans, Yash addressed criticism surrounding the trailers and the film’s portrayal of women. The actor described Toxic as “bold”, “original”, “ambitious” and “path-breaking”, while stressing that the film goes beyond the imagery presented in its promotional material. Yash also defended his decision to collaborate with Geetu Mohandas after ‘KGF’, saying that choosing a director was not about opting for the biggest commercial name. He emphasised that he wanted to be respected for his work rather than his financial success.Speaking about the film’s female perspective, Yash said there is “a voice for women in this film” and urged audiences to watch the complete story before drawing conclusions from the trailer. Yash also highlighted Geetu Mohandas’ contribution to the project and spoke about the additional challenges women can face while establishing themselves professionally. Kiara, who plays Nadia, credited Geetu for helping her bring the character to life, while Huma described being part of Toxic as “being part of history.”
Toxic gets A certificate from CBFC
The film has also cleared its censorship hurdle ahead of release. Toxic has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and was reportedly passed without cuts. The certification is in keeping with the film’s positioning as a darker gangster action drama aimed at mature audiences.
