Sonali Kulkarni will be seen playing the mother of Nani’s character in the upcoming action thriller ‘The Paradise’ directed by Srikanth Odela. The actress talked about her experience of mothering a son and her character Sammakka that she claimed should not be defined only by her relationship with Nani’s character.

Sonali Kulkarni says Sammakka has her own story

In a conversation with Mid-day, talking about her role, Sonali Kulkarni said, “As we all know, we are all human beings, but we have different stories, so we can’t label a person as a hero. Yes, he is a hero, but he is going to have a story; his life is going to unfold. Similarly, in my character, I play Samakka. I have my own life and my own story to tell.”Sonali explained that Sammakka’s life is shaped by her own circumstances and experiences. She said her story in ‘The Paradise’ has several unexpected incidents and that audiences will connect with her emotions.“My story is filled with many incidents that are unexpected. You are ultimately going to feel angry, unjust; you are going to feel for me and will cheer for me,” she said.The actress also spoke about playing a mother to a son, saying it was different from her experience of being a mother to her daughter Kaveri. “I have a daughter, and here I am playing a mother to a son. Both are completely different experiences and emotions,” she said.

Sonali says ‘The Paradise’ has a strong female perspective

Sonali said she had to understand Sammakka’s surroundings and the reason behind the conflict in the film before playing the character. “Here in The Paradise, I had to understand where we are living, what this fight is all about and what I am thinking as a woman,” she said.

Sonali says everyone will want a son like Nani

Sonali also praised Nani’s performance and expressed confidence that his character will connect with viewers. “I guarantee you. And of course, I have never said this before, but everybody is going to say, ‘I need a son like him. Nani is so good in the film,’” she said.

Sonali Kulkarni learnt Telugu for ‘The Paradise’

Sonali also revealed that she learnt Telugu specifically for ‘The Paradise’ and dubbed her own lines in the film. She was also pleased after director Srikanth Odela complimented her dubbing as he liked his voice more which brought out emotions than a dubbing artist’s.

Cast and release details of ‘The Paradise’

‘The Paradise’ features Kayadu Lohar, Mohan Babu, Tanikella Bharani, Raghav Juyal, Sonali Kulkarni and Sampoornesh Babu in key roles. It is set to release on big screens on September 24 in multiple languages including English, Bengali and Spanish.The film has reportedly received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification with a runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes.
