Hyderabad: Telangana recorded an 11% decline in cybercrime cases this year, while losses from cyber fraud fell by 20%, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) officials said on Wednesday at the launch of the state’s cyber security awareness month campaign.Speaking at the launch of “Cyber Security Flash”, a 2-km night walk at People’s Plaza on Necklace Road, DGP C V Anand said Telangana residents lost nearly ₹1,800 crore to cybercrime in 2025. Around 45,000 complaints have already been received by the TGCSB and other cybercrime police stations this year, he added.Around 3,000 people participated in the walk, using mobile phone flashlights and LED wristbands. Organised under the theme “Pause for Safety”, the event brought together citizens, students, volunteers and police personnel, with the message “Pause, Think and Verify”. Oct is observed globally as Cyber Security Awareness Month.Anand said cybercriminals were using several methods to dupe victims, including fake investment schemes, OTP-related fraud, parcel scams and digital arrest tactics.“Before you reply to any message on your phone, or any call from anyone asking you for details, just pause and think,” he said, stressing that banks and govt agencies do not seek OTPs from customers.TGCSB director and principal secretary, home department, Shikha Goel said the decline in cybercrime cases and losses was linked to greater public awareness. The campaign will continue through Oct 31, with similar flash walks planned across the districts. The event also featured stalls on cybercrime, narcotics, women’s safety, traffic and fire safety. Officials advised cyber fraud victims to immediately call 1930, saying prompt reporting can improve the chances of recovering lost money.
