Techie drowns in AP stream while taking photos | Hyderabad News

Rajahmundry: A 26-year-old software engineer drowned in a mountain stream near Sokuleru viewpoint in Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram district on Tuesday afternoon while taking photographs. Police and SDRF later recovered Kosuru Nilesh’s body.Nilesh, from Vijayawada and an employee of HCL in Hyderabad, and five of his colleagues, including three women, had been touring scenic spots in Andhra Pradesh.The group had visited Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Annavaram, Visakhapatnam and Araku Valley before staying overnight at Maredumilli.On Tuesday morning, they arrived at Sokuleru a scenic viewpoint situated on Bhadrachalam-Maredumilli stretch in the East Godavari district,. Around 11.30 am, four of them stepped into the swift-flowing stream to take photos among the rocks. While clicking pictures, they slipped and fell into the water. Hearing their cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and managed to rescue three of them, including two women. Nilesh, however, was swept away.On receiving information about the incident, police teams from Chintoor and Mothugudem, along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The search continued for some time, following which Nilesh’s body was recovered.Locals said while the water level in the stream is usually low, but strong currents had developed following heavy rain in the catchment area.Officials have been urging tourists to avoid entering streams and other water bodies, particularly during the rainy season, when heavy rainfall in catchment areas can cause water levels and currents to rise suddenly.A case has been registered at Mothugudem police station.
