Veteran actor Sanjay Mishra has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of his ‘Welcome’ co-star Mushtaq Khan, who passed away on Thursday. He remembered the late actor as a fine actor and a caring person who once guided him like a guardian.
Sanjay Mishra reacts to Mushtaq Khan’s death
Sanjay Mishra told ANI, “Suna tha ki tabiyat kharab rehti thi lekin chale jaenge aisa socha nahin tha…Bhaut hi saddening news hai (I had heard that he had been keeping unwell, but I never thought he would leave us so soon… This is truly a very saddening news).”Reports say Mushtaq Khan was admitted to Nanavati Hospital with health complications, and doctors diagnosed him with cancer during treatment. His condition worsened despite medical care, and he died while undergoing treatment.Sanjay Mishra said Mushtaq Khan played a guardian-like role in his life at one point and often gave him useful advice. He said, “Meri life me ke time pe woh guardian ho gaye the…jab bhi mujhe zarurt padti thi main unse suggestion le leta tha…dukhad news hai… woh ek bhaut ache kalakaar the par unko itna credit nhi mila (There was a time in my life when he became like a guardian to me. Whenever I needed guidance, I would seek his suggestions. It is sad news… He did not get the recognition and credit he truly deserved).”
Memories from the sets of ‘Welcome’
Recalling their time together on ‘Welcome’, Sanjay Mishra said, “Bhaut hi behatreen actor and insaan the. Maine unke saath Welcome mein kaam kiya tha…unhone mujhe pura Dubai ghumaya tha (He was a wonderful actor and an even better human being. I had worked with him in Welcome… he showed me around the whole of Dubai).”Mushtaq Khan’s comic act in the film, especially the popular dialogue “Meri ek taang nakli hai, main hockey ka bahut bada player hoon”, remains one of its most loved moments. His timing and easy performance made the character unforgettable.
A career of over three decades
Khan began his film journey with ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai’ in 1980. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he was seen in many Hindi films, including ‘Welcome’, ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’.

Mushtaq Khan’s funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday.
