Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has saved around Rs 90 crore by restructuring manpower in the anti-Naxal Greyhounds and anti-terror commando OCTOPUS wings, along with reducing excess security personnel deployed for VIPs.Director general of police (DGP) CV Anand said on Friday that the restructuring exercise resulted in the withdrawal of the 60% additional allowance paid to 573 personnel of the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS wings, leading to an estimated saving of Rs 28.16 crore.Personnel working with the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS wings were earlier paid an additional 60% of their salary due to the risks involved in their duties. With the Naxal problem having been largely eradicated in the state, the number of personnel deployed with the Greyhounds has been substantially reduced, with many of them redeployed to other wings of the police department.The govt has also withdrawn 376 excess security personnel deployed for VIPs, including senior retired IPS officers. According to the DGP’s office, the restructuring of the police force has resulted in overall savings of around Rs 90 crore.The department has further reduced its vehicle fleet used for VIP security by withdrawing 20 bullet-proof vehicles, seven Fortuners, 18 Innova Crystas and 58 other four-wheelers, thereby reducing the financial burden on the government.Meanwhile, DGP CV Anand directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the conference of DGPs of southern states, which is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in October.
