Hyderabad: Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Saturday called for a reshuffle of the cabinet, saying that a change in govt’s team will bring a sense of freshness after two and a half years in office.In a chat with media persons in his chamber at the council, Sukender Reddy, who was nominted by BRS for the chairman post in 2019, said the existing cabinet should be reorganised and stressed the need to reduce infighting within Congress.“Failure to act against leaders who cross the party line could damage the party. A greater discipline should be enforced. The party leadership should control internal leaks. Maintaining discipline is crucial for Congress to strengthen its position and return to power in the next elections,” the chairman said.He also suggested that the monthly Cheyutha pension should be increased from the existing ₹2,000. He supported the continuation of the Rythu Bharosa scheme but said its benefits should be limited to eligible beneficiaries.He also called for the abolition of the 22A provision, noting that it had existed during the previous BRS govt’s tenure too. “Freebies should be curtailed in such a way that welfare schemes should reach genuine beneficiaries. I had earlier made suggestions regarding BPL and APL categories, but they had not been considered. Justice should be done to activists of the Telangana statehood movement,” he added.On the disciplinary action issue against party veteran and planning board vice-chairman G Chinna Reddy, Sukender Reddy said it would have been better if Chinna Reddy had not spoken so openly.“Chief minister A Revanth Reddy is young and enthusiastic. He should be allowed to work without obstacles. Everyone should cooperate with him. The CM should have the freedom to function. The incumbent Congress govt is continuing schemes introduced during the KCR govt while also introducing some new schemes. There is no dissatisfaction among common people over govt’s schemes, but the programmes need to be publicised more effectively,” he added.
