‘Promised to give wife-like rights’: Wrestler-actor Saurav Gurjar arrested for sexual exploitation; sent to judicial custody | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Gachibowli police arrested 40-year-old wrestler-cum-actor Saurav Gurjar at Mumbai airport for allegedly sexually exploiting a 29-year-old woman on the promise of marriage. He was sent to 14-day judicial remand on Sunday.According to police, the 29-year-old complainant from Nanakramguda alleged that she first connected with Gurjar on Instagram in 2021. They became intimate after their first meeting on December 25, 2021, she claimed.“During the course of our relationship, the accused disclosed that he was already married. He repeatedly promised to give me wife-like rights and eventually settle down with me,” the woman stated in her complaint.She alleged that during their five-year relationship, while she stayed with Gurjar at different places in the US and India, he frequently avoided her and even went incommunicado. “He used to block me on the phone/social media and disappear without any prior information. I suffered mental harassment, emotional distress and financial loss, including losing my job after I left my employment in the US to stay with him,” the complainant alleged.According to the woman, Gurjar later helped her relocate to Hyderabad. She claimed to have relocated with the expectation that they would settle together. However, the accused allegedly again failed to honour his assurances. He allegedly continued the relationship by making false promises of marriage and subjected her to harassment and sexual exploitation, Gachibowli police stated in the FIR.Based on the complaint, Gachibowli police registered a case against Gurjar on August 15 under Section 69 of the BNS (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means, etc.). “We also issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against him. On the night of September 17, he was intercepted by immigration officials at Mumbai airport when he arrived from the Middle East. Our team brought him to Hyderabad on Saturday and produced him before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody on Sunday,” Gachibowli inspector K Saidulu said.
