Hyderabad: Hours after two young children vanished from a labourers’ housing facility, Gachibowli police traced the accused across railway routes, rescued them unharmed and foiled an alleged trafficking bid.The kidnapping case was solved within four hours and cops saved the two girls who were allegedly taken away from the facility in Kondapur on Tuesday. The accused was arrested and is being interrogated.The incident came to light around 2 am when David Murmu, a labourer residing at the temporary accommodation, approached Gachibowli police. He told police that his four-year-old daughter and another labourer’s three-and-a-half year-old daughter, who were playing at the site on Monday evening, had been allegedly lured away by Chaku Soren, a labourer staying in the same facility.A kidnapping case was immediately registered, and special teams were formed to trace the accused and the missing children.“We have alerted all the police stations in the city and the railway police, particularly along the Kolkata route. Teams were also dispatched to Ghatkesar, Jangaon and Kazipet railway stations,” Serilingampally DCP Ch Srinivas said.By analysing the accused’s call detail records, police tracked his movements to the Ghatkesar railway station area during the early hours of Tuesday. Acting swiftly in coordination with Ghatkesar police, the teams intercepted and arrested Soren and rescued both girls. The children were later reunited with their parents.During interrogation, Soren (45), a native of West Bengal, allegedly confessed that he had earlier been arrested by West Bengal police in attempt to murder and rape cases. “He had served five years jail term in West Bengal,” police said.Soren is also believed to have told investigators that he intended to sell the girls to begging rackets. Police said the claim is being verified. The accused will be produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.DCP Srinivas urged labour contractors, security agencies and labour camp managements to install CCTV cameras, verify workers’ antecedents, and maintain heightened vigilance, particularly during night hours, to prevent such crimes.
