Hyderabad: A 21-year-old nurse was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Thukkuguda, within the Pahadishareef police station limits, on Saturday. Police are investigating the case and suspect foul play.Police said the woman, a native of Kothagudem who belonged to the ST community, was found dead in her room with bleeding injuries to her face. Her family lodged a complaint alleging that an unidentified person had killed her using a blunt object.Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS. She had moved to Hyderabad from Kothagudem seven months ago in search of employment. She secured a job as a nurse at a private hospital and was staying in an accommodation opposite her workplace.“She was supposed to come home for Raksha Bandhan (Friday), but after completing her night shift, she chose to stay back. She also made a video call to the family at around 8.30 am (Saturday). As per the information shared with us by the police, the accused gained entry through a window and attacked her with a hammer, causing injuries to her face and knees. He later wrapped the body in a bedsheet. We have also been told that he planned to burn the body,” a family member of the victim told reporters on Sunday.When colleagues found she wasn’t responding to phone calls, they went to check on her. As there was no response, they entered the room through a window and found her lying in a pool of blood.Police have taken a man from Bihar into custody for questioning. Investigators are awaiting the forensic report to ascertain whether any sexual assault took place.Police said a mechanic’s shop is located behind the room where she was staying. The suspect is believed to have gained entry through a window connected to the room and fled through the same route after committing the crime.Although the incident came to light on Saturday evening, it drew wider attention after family members of the victim and members of various organisations staged protests demanding justice for the victim. The assistant commissioner of police (ACP) for the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) division, Srikanth Goud, is supervising the investigation. The suspect is being questioned and is likely to be formally arrested on Monday.
