No meddling by Centre in EC’s functioning, claims Kishan Reddy | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Union minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday alleged that Congress was questioning EVMs and the Election Commission when it lost elections, while claiming credit for the electoral process when it won.Reddy said the Election Commission was an independent constitutional body and alleged that the Centre had not interfered in its functioning. He urged Congress to accept electoral outcomes and substantiate its allegations regarding the electoral process.Speaking at a news conference at the BJP state office, Reddy said he was referring to Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana and also Kerala in the context of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.On SIR, Reddy alleged that removal of dead, duplicate and incorrect entries from electoral rolls was a legitimate exercise. He questioned Congress’s objections to the process, pointing to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where SIR was conducted but BJP did not form the govt.Reddy also alleged that Congress was undermining constitutional and security institutions by questioning the Election Commission, EVMs, armed forces, ED, CBI and other institutions.Reddy also referred to the 1975 Emergency, alleging that Congress had curtailed press freedom and civil rights and had jailed opposition leaders.
