Hyderabad: The monsoon session of the Telangana assembly began on a stormy note on Monday, with BJP MLAs disrupting proceedings over the controversy surrounding the inclusion of lands in the prohibited 22-A category. Meanwhile, BRS members protesting outside the assembly in black shirts were taken into custody by police..Inside the House, speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and legislative affairs minister D Sridhar Babu assured the BJP that the govt was ready to take up a discussion on the 22-A lands issue and fee reimbursement after the matters were discussed in the business advisory committee (BAC) meeting. However, BJP floor leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy and other party MLAs refused to allow question hour to proceed.Shortly after the session began, the speaker called upon Jadcherla MLA J Anirudh Reddy to ask his question. However, the BJP MLAs, holding placards, insisted on a judicial enquiry by a sitting judge into the 22-A controversy. Raising slogans, they moved towards the well. Marshals stopped them from entering the well of the House.Sridhar Babu appealed to the BJP MLAs to return to their seats, saying that the govt was prepared for a short discussion on the 22-A issue. The BJP MLAs, however, continued with their protest.Amid the din, chief minister A Revanth Reddy left the House to attend a farmer leaders’ programme at Ravindra Bharathi.The speaker then directed marshals to take away the placards from the protesting BJP MLAs. As they continued sloganeering, the Speaker adjourned the House for a break, without even the first question being completed.The House reconvened after 2 pm and took up a discussion on a demand to expel BRS MLC T Madhu from the legislative council over his alleged use of unparliamentary language against the speaker during a BRS protest outside the assembly earlier in the day.BRS MLAs did not attend Monday’s proceedings. Warangal East MLA and former minister Konda Surekha, who was recently dropped from the cabinet, was also absent.Later, the BJP members staged a walkout from the House in protest against the govt’s refusal to take up a discussion on 22-A immediately.The assembly was subsequently adjourned to meet again on Tuesday.
