Michigan couple loses claim to 50-foot land strip after neighbour commissions two surveys

A Michigan couple has lost a legal battle over a 50-foot-wide strip of land they claimed was wrongly excluded from their property because of an error in a 1965 deed. The couple, who bought their land at a 2015 tax sale, argued that previous owners had used the disputed area for decades. However, two surveys placed the land within their neighbour’s property. On October 9, 2026, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled against the couple, citing insufficient evidence to establish ownership.
