Hyderabad: A 19-year-old degree student was raped by a 23-year-old neighbour from a residential area under Dundigal police station limits on Friday. On the complaint of the survivor, police registered a rape case and arrested the accused.According to police, at around 6.30 am, when the student was alone at home, the accused barged into the house and raped her. After committing the offence, he fled from the house while threatening the victim not to reveal the offence to anyone. But the victim alerted her family and approached the police.“We have shifted the complainant for medical examination. Her statement will be recorded at Bharosa centre and statements of witnesses have also been recorded,” Dundigal inspector M Bal Reddy said.On the complaint of the survivor, a case was registered under section 64 (rape) of the BNS against the accused. Police said the accused came to Hyderabad about eight months ago from another district in the state in search of a livelihood. “He works for a ride-hailing company and has been stalking the complainant for about a week, forcing her to be in a relationship with him. But the complainant rejected his proposals,” the inspector said.The accused was arrested on Friday evening from Dundigal. He will be produced before the magistrate for judicial remand.
