JNTU students flag poor hostel facilities, submit representation to principal

Hyderabad: The Students Protection Forum (SPF) of JNTUH University College of Engineering has flagged poor maintenance and inadequate basic facilities in the university’s boys’ and girls’ hostels.In a representation to the principal, the forum alleged that drinking water filters were not functioning properly and that the water was often dirty and unhygienic. It also raised concerns over unclean corridors, poorly maintained washrooms, non-functional toilets and inadequate water supply.The forum further alleged that some rooms housed around 10 students, while study halls lacked sufficient chairs, tables and lighting. Concerns were also raised over the quality and hygiene of hostel food.Citing sanitation and hygiene issues, SPF said students were facing health-related difficulties and considerable inconvenience.The forum urged the university to immediately inspect all hostels and take corrective measures to ensure clean drinking water, proper sanitation, functional toilets, adequate water supply, hygienic food and suitable room accommodation.
