Like many other celebrities, the ranch was a step away from the hectic life of being an actor for Galecki. Located in Santa Margarita, a rural community in San Luis Obispo County, the property sits between San Francisco and Los Angeles, making it one of the most sought-after areas because of its network.

One of the main parts of the 160-acre ranch was the main house, which was a 3,588-square-foot log cabin. It featured three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Not only that but the large property, that often used to act as Galecki’s rural getaway, also featured extra amenities. These included a separate log cabin, a workshop space, an unfinished apartment, vineyards that were directly connected to the ranch area, a private pool, ponds, trees, greenery, and water facilities. The unfinished apartment had two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an outside entrance, while the vineyard spanned 7 acres of land and had Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel grapes growing there.

The harrowing wildfires in 2017, the June 2017 Hill Fire, devastated the community in the area and affected a lot of homes located there, including Galecki’s home as well. At the time, according to various reports shared online, the fire burned and destroyed around 1600 acres of land. The fire had started blazing on June 26, 2017, along Park Hill Road, just east of the town of Santa Margarita.During the fire, a lot of Galecki’s land was burned, along with all of his main residence, though Galecki had not been at home at the time when the wildfires broke out. A few days after the fire broke out and was cleared, Galecki shared an Instagram post about the incident and thanked the firefighters and everyone else who assisted in helping people affected by the tragedy. He shared a photo of himself standing among the rubble of the home while hugging a firefighter.He wrote, It is the profound risks that you accept and the sacrifices you and your families make that keep us safe.” In another public statement he made about the wildfires, Galecki added, “My heart goes out to all in the area who are also experiencing loss from this vicious fire, the threat of which we live with constantly, which may seem crazy to some, but we do so because living in our beautiful, rural area makes it worthwhile. So very relieved no one has been hurt.”Along with Galecki’s home, many other spaces were affected by the wildfire, and over 250 residents from the area had to be evacuated. In February 2018, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office officially charged a local landowner, David Lynn Macagni, with a misdemeanor count of “recklessly causing a fire of a structure or forest.”
