That report described the home as a refurbished and expanded mid-century modern house with lots of glass, limestone flooring, a rooftop deck and around 30 feet of beach frontage.The later report on the sale listed the property at 2,866 square feet, with five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. It was a two-story contemporary home with an open-plan living room, family room, dining room and kitchen.

The biggest attraction was obviously the ocean.The living spaces opened onto a deck facing the Pacific, giving the home a very strong indoor-outdoor feel. There were fireplaces in both the living room and master bedroom, while a spa sat on the rooftop deck.When the Malibu house was listed in 2012, E! also highlighted its terrace with adjustable privacy walls, updated kitchen, family room, outdoor entertaining area and rooftop spa. The listing was then asking $13.95 million.The home was part of Malibu Colony, a gated coastal community known for its celebrity residents. Forbes, while covering the most expensive celebrity homes for sale in 2012, noted that Carrey’s property occupied about 0.17 acres and had its own stretch of oceanfront.

Carrey did not sell the home immediately.According to UPI’s 2013 report, the Malibu beach house had first been listed in 2011 for $18 million. It was later taken off the market and relisted in 2012 for $13.95 million.The Los Angeles Times also reported the $13.95 million 2012 listing, along with the home’s five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, ocean-facing deck and rooftop spa.After spending around two years on the market, Carrey finally sold it for $13.4 million in 2013.

Janelle Friedman of Sotheby’s International Realty in Pacific Palisades represented Carrey in the deal.UPI also reported the $13.4 million sale and noted that the buyer’s identity had not been disclosed publicly at the time.The difference between Carrey’s reported purchase price of $9.75 million in 2002 and the final sale price of $13.4 million in 2013 was $3.65 million, before accounting for taxes, maintenance and other costs.
