Actress Anu Aggarwal has revisited a difficult chapter from the making of ‘Return of the Jewel Thief’. She recalled suffering a coccyx fracture while filming a scene with legendary actor-filmmaker Dev Anand.Anu Aggarwal shared throwback pictures from the project on Instagram. She also opened up about the accident, her recovery and the production troubles that followed. The film was among her final projects before she took a sabbatical from acting.

Anu Aggarwal recalls accident during Dev Anand film shoot

According to Anu Aggarwal, the injury happened while she was shooting a scene with Dev Anand. She slipped and fell onto a car, resulting in a fracture to her coccyx.The actress said she was living alone at the time. She also recalled that nobody from the production helped her after the accident. A neighbor later gave Anu Aggarwal the name of a doctor. When she consulted him, she was told that she had sought medical attention at the right time.The doctor reportedly advised immediate surgery. Anu Aggarwal said she was warned that delaying the procedure could have resulted in a permanently crooked spine.She wrote, “Cinema Last shoot There was one film I had signed before my sabbatical. I was shooting a scene with Dev Anand when I slipped, fell onto a car and fractured my coccyx. What stayed with me was not just the injury. I was living alone, and there was no one from the production helped.However my neighbour gave me the name of a doctor, and when I saw him, he told me I had come just in time. I needed an operation immediately; otherwise, I was told, I could have been left with a permanently crooked spine.“

Actress recovered and prepared to resume shooting

Anu Aggarwal said she recovered soon and was ready to return to the film’s production. However, she already had plans that were pulling her toward a different path.She had planned a trip to France in June for a Dhrupad retreat in the lavender fields. Her Guruji was also expected to be there.The actress recalled that she was prepared to miss the red carpet when the film premiered in France. She said her mind was already made up and she was waiting only for the production to finish because her dates had been booked.“I was well soon and ready to shoot. I had already planned to go to France in June for a Dhrupad retreat in the lavender fields, where my Guruji would be. In 1995 I was going to miss red carpet when my film was premiering there, but my mind was set. I was just waiting for the film to complete as my dates had been booked.”

‘Return of the Jewel Thief’ production ran out of money

The project later encountered a major production setback. Anu Aggarwal said the makers ran out of money, bringing the shoot to a halt.She recalled that three months passed without filming. By then, a song and an important scene featuring Dev Anand had already been completed.“Yoga, was my calling though I hadn’t planned for it then. Though I had already started feeling detached from the world. Return of jewel Thief then had the production then run out of money. Three months passed without shooting. Eventually, I had to leave — something I had already told them well in advance. The making song and an important scene with DevAnanad had already been shot. And that was it.”

Anu Aggarwal reflects on end of acting chapter

Anu Aggarwal eventually left the production, something she said she had communicated to the makers beforehand. The unfinished project became one of the final chapters of her film career.She reflected on how her professional journey was changing at the time.
