Hyderabad: India’s global capability centres (GCCs) are moving from support roles to being strategic hubs for research, technology, intellectual property and global decision-making, Telangana IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu said here on Thursday.Addressing leaders from healthcare, life sciences, technology and R&D GCCs at RISE Health Innovation Summit 2026, Sridhar Babu said India now hosts more than 1,800 GCCs employing over 1.9 million professionals, with 44% evolving into portfolio hubs with end-to-end ownership.He said Hyderabad is well positioned for the next phase of GCC growth because it combines Telangana’s life sciences base of over 2,000 enterprises and more than 250 USFDA-approved sites with strong engineering and digital talent.He also launched Healthark’s report, “Unlocking India as the Strategic Hub for Life Sciences & Healthcare GCCs,” on the occasion.The summit, organised by Healthark, featured executives from Novo Nordisk, Carelon Global Solutions, Opella, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Roche, Deloitte, Bosch, Medtronic, Sandoz and others.Healthark founder and CEO Purav Gandhi said healthcare and life sciences companies are now deciding which advanced capabilities can be built in India.Healthark co-founder Sudeep Krishna said successful GCCs need domain depth, leadership, operating models and global integration. The summit also discussed AI, analytics, genomics and biotechnology for affordable care globally.
