Hyderabad: Former minister T Harish Rao demanded judicial inquiry into 22A prohibited properties lists, alleging that it has become a major problem for lakhs of people across Telangana. He alleged that the Congress govt had put large numbers of private properties, houses and agricultural lands into the prohibited list without proper verification and demanded resignation of revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, accusing him of being responsible for the alleged fiasco.Harish Rao gave a Power Point presentation on 22A and interacted with the victims of 22A prohibited properties at Telangana Bhavan on Friday.Speaking at the meeting, Harish Rao said, “Everyone we meet is speaking about the 22A problem. Families are unable to sell their properties, arrange marriages or fund their children’s education,” he said.He explained that Section 22A was originally introduced to protect govt, assigned, endowment, Waqf and other protected lands. “But today, ordinary people’s properties are being added to the prohibited list,” he alleged. Harish Rao said the govt was trying to blame the previous BRS govt for a problem that, according to him, arose after the Congress came to power.Harish Rao said land is not just a piece of property for ordinary people. “For a farmer, land is his livelihood. For a poor family, it is a lifetime’s savings. For a middle-class family, it is security for their children’s future. For a father, it may be the property saved for his daughter’s marriage. For parents, it may be the only support for their children’s education. For a family, it can be the last financial support during a medical emergency,” he said.He alleged that around 40,000 acres in Yadadri district had been included in the 22A list and questioned why action was not taken earlier. Harish Rao further alleged that even chief minister A Revanth Reddy’s own house in Jubilee Hills had appeared in the 22A list and was removed after the issue was raised. “If the CM’s property can be removed overnight, why are ordinary people being forced to run from office to office?” he asked.He alleged that GO No. 179 was issued on Dec 31, 2025, directing collectors to provide details of lands for inclusion under 22A. He also said an order was issued on Sept 11, 2025 for preparation of a new prohibition list, followed by lists and gazette notifications in various districts. Harish Rao said the problem had affected not only rural lands but also urban properties.He alleged that lands auctioned by HMDA and HUDA, housing society properties in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, and large parts of the Shaikpet area had also been included in the 22A list.“Around 50,000 families are in distress over the issue from Ameenpur alone. In Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, I received around 10,000 applications from affected people. We wanted to place those applications before the revenue minister in the assembly. That is why, I believe, the govt did not want us in the assembly,” he alleged.Harish Rao said the BRS would continue its fight even if its leaders were arrested, and demanded the govt to immediately remove the wrongly included private properties from the 22A list.
