After Saiyaara's blockbuster success, Ram Gopal Varma teases 'gangster curry' collab with Mohit Suri

Director Mohit Suri recently rode high on the success of ‘Saiyaara’, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, a film that went on to become the highest-grossing Indian love story ever made. While he’s already preparing his next venture with the same cast and crew, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma stirred things up with a trademark tease about a possible collaboration, announcing it on social media alongside a picture.

Ram Gopal Varma’s teaser post on X

On Sunday, RGV shared a selfie with Mohit on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, hinting at their upcoming project together. He wrote, “Me and #Saiyaara’s @mohit11481 for his NEXT film , are COOKING together a LOVE DISH full of GANGSTER CURRY .. Details to be SERVED VERY VERY SOON (fire emojis).” In the photo, the two filmmakers can be seen smiling broadly as they pose for the camera.

Fans react to the Ram Gopal Varma-Mohit Suri collab

“What a Collab,” one person commented in reaction to the news, while another wrote, “Teekha aur meetha both flavours in movie now.” An X user remarked, “Highly awaiting Sir. Too exciting,” and another joked, “The thought of Kallu Mama singing Saiyaara Tu To Badla Nahi Hai is already killing me.” A few speculated whether the film could be a sequel to ‘Gangster’ or ‘Aashiqui’.

Mohit Suri on Ram Gopal Varma’s influence

In an August conversation with PTI about Saiyaara’s success, Mohit referenced something RGV had once said. He shared, “He (RGV) said during the re-release of Satya that ‘We don’t make the film, sometimes the film makes us. They have a life of their own, we are just part of them’. And I believe that.”

What’s next for Mohit Suri after ‘Saiyaara’

Following the success of ‘Saiyaara’, Mohit is once again collaborating with Yash Raj Films alongside Aneet and Ahaan for a project described as an ‘intense romance.’ Filming on the yet-untitled movie is set to begin this year, with a planned 2027 release. Whether RGV will feature in this film or a separate one remains unclear for now. ‘Saiyaara’ had proven to be a massive box office success upon its release last year, earning Rs 329.73 crore net in India and Rs 570.33 crore globally, as per trade tracker Sacnilk.

Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming projects

RGV has revealed plans to direct a horror project called ‘Police Station Mein Bhoot’, featuring Manoj Bajpayee, with Genelia D’Souza, Ramya Krishnan and Rajpal Yadav reportedly also attached to the cast. Additionally, he has another film, ‘Police Company’, lined up with Harshvardhan Rane, Fardeen Khan and Paresh Rawal. Following the success of Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, RGV also unveiled a new project titled ‘Syndicate’. Reports further suggest that he is set to take on a lead acting role in a film called ‘Showman’.
