ECI schedules September 17 hearing with rebel TMC delegation over party representation

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled a hearing with a five-member delegation led by Ritabrata Banerjee on September 17 in connection with representations received by the poll panel concerning the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).In a letter dated September 16, the Commission said the hearing will be held at 3 pm at Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road, New Delhi.ECI wrote the letter with the subject, “Representations received in the Commission with respect to All India Trinamool Congress, a recognised political party in the States of West Bengal, Meghalaya and Tripura – Reg.”The communication referred to the ECI’s earlier letter dated September 12 and asked Banerjee to provide the names of the five delegation members along with their vehicle details to election@eci.gov.in for necessary arrangements.The hearing comes amid the ongoing dispute between rival TMC factions over the party’s organisational control, name and election symbol.
