Hyderabad: A constable who tried to prevent a brawl was stabbed by an assailant during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Parigi town in the early hours of Saturday. Police arrested the accused and shifted the constable to a private hospital in Hyderabad. His condition is said to be out of danger.According to Parigi police, at around 4 am, constable Narsimhulu noticed a local youth, Tarun (27), in an argument with a group of youngsters who were part of the Ganesh idol procession.“Tarun was upset that he was not invited by the group to be a part of the procession. Alleging that they had deliberately avoided him, Tarun picked up an argument with the members of the group. Our constable, Narsimhulu, intervened to prevent any untoward incident. Tarun pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Narsimhulu in the stomach,” Parigi CI Kondal Reddy said.Police, along with locals, immediately nabbed the accused from the spot and rushed Narsimhulu to Parigi govt hospital for medical treatment. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Gachibowli for better treatment. Vikarabad SP Sneha Mehra visited Narsimhulu in the hospital and said that his condition is stable. “We will initiate stringent legal action against the accused,” the SP said.Parigi police booked a case under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 121 (Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the BNS against Tarun. “We are producing him before the magistrate for judicial remand,” the CI said.
