Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao said Kalyana Lakshmi scheme, which was introduced to provide financial assistance to families at the time of their daughter’s marriage, has completed 12 years. In a post on X, KTR and Harish said the scheme stands as a testament to the humane governance of former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao. They recalled that the scheme was conceived after KCR witnessed the hardships faced by a tribal family during the Telangana movement. “With the objective of reducing the financial burden on poor families during their daughters’ marriages, the govt launched the welfare initiative,” KTR said.According to KTR and Harish, KCR stood by lakhs of families across Telangana like a caring elder during the marriages of their daughters. They praised KCR’s decision to provide financial assistance of ₹1,00,116 to eligible beneficiaries, stating that the scheme significantly eased the burden on parents and also contributed to reducing child marriages. KTR noted that over the last 12 years, nearly 16.78 lakh families have benefited from Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. He, however, alleged that Congress govt has weakened the scheme since coming to power. Criticising the CM, KTR claimed that the promise of providing one tola of gold to beneficiaries remains unfulfilled and alleged that efforts are being made to gradually phase out the scheme. On the occasion of the scheme completing 12 years, KTR and Harish Rao conveyed their best wishes to all beneficiaries and families who have received support.
