BRS Alleges Coal Supply Irregularities, Production Decline in Singareni | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) alleged large-scale irregularities in coal production and supply at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), claiming that mismanagement by the Congress govt had led to an acute power crisis in Telangana despite the state possessing significant coal reserves. The party demanded immediate supply of good quality grade coal to all TG Genco stations immediately and priortise Telangana power plants over external dispatches until stock reserves hit normative targets. The party also demanded the SCCL to hand over the probe into the missing 40 lakh tons of coal to an independent investigating agency, commission an external forensic audit and special audit by the CAG.A fact-finding committee constituted by the party met SCCL chairman and managing director Buddha Prakash Jyothi at Singareni Bhavan on Thursday and submitted a detailed representation seeking answers on coal production, stock discrepancies and fuel supplies to state power utilities.The delegation included former minister Koppula Eshwar, MLA K.P. Vivekanand, MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan, Shambipur Raju, ex-MLA Diwakar Rao and leaders of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TGBKS).Addressing the media, BRS leaders alleged that Telangana’s thermal power stations were facing severe coal shortages even as sizeable coal reserves remained available in Singareni mines. They claimed that several TG Genco thermal units were operating below capacity or had been shut down due to inadequate supply of quality coal, resulting in reduced power generation and widespread disruptions.The party alleged that nearly 1,870 MW of power generation capacity had been affected because of coal shortages and technical issues. It cited the reduced generation at the 4,000-MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station and shutdowns of units at the Kakatiya Thermal Power Project, Bhupalpally, and the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station as evidence of the crisis.BRS leaders also questioned the sharp decline in coal production. They said SCCL had produced a record 70.02 million tonnes of coal during 2023-24 but output had reportedly fallen to around 58 million tonnes in 2025-26 against a target of 72 million tonnes. The party demanded an explanation for the decline and alleged that reduced production had adversely impacted coal availability for Telangana’s power sector.The BRS also demanded a probe into an alleged discrepancy involving about 40 lakh tonnes of coal valued at approximately ₹1,600 crore. The party claimed that coal reflected in stock records at several depots was found missing during physical verification and questioned the delay in making public the findings of a vigilance inquiry.ends/
