Hyderabad: Bajaj General Insurance Limited, formerly Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, has rolled out a health insurance policy that covers pet dogs and cats as family members under one integrated plan – My Family Complete.The insurer said it is India’s first family health cover to combine protection for people and pets, replacing separate policies with a single framework.Bajaj General Insurance managing director & CEO Dr Tapan Singhel said the company had rolled out the unique cover as pets are no longer companions but are becoming part of the family. “When pets are family, their health and wellbeing naturally become a part of the family’s healthcare needs. Insurance must evolve with society and with the way families live today. Every member of the family deserves access to the care they need and the opportunity to live a life of dignity, and we believe that should extend to our pets who are family as well,” he said.The plan offers sum insured options from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5 crore, with tenures of up to five years. It covers adults from 18, dependent children aged three months to 30 years, and pet dogs or cats from three months, with no upper age limit for pets.Benefits include inpatient hospitalisation, room rent, road and pet ambulance services, pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses, domiciliary care, modern treatments, AYUSH hospitalisation for humans, organ donor expenses and family visit reimbursements.The policy provides unlimited reinstatement of the sum insured, cumulative bonuses up to 100%, cataract treatment cover and convalescence benefits.The pet-focused features include advertising and reward reimbursement if a pet is lost, emergency pet accommodation during the pet parent’s hospitalisation, and third-party liability cover for injury, death or property damage caused by an insured pet.The optional add-ons include air ambulance cover, major illness and accident multipliers, double sum insured benefit, global cover, NRInsure, consumables cover, long-term care for chronic pet conditions, pet adoption support and a ‘Bundle of Joy’ payout on the birth of a child or pet litter.
