NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the arrest of Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over an alleged incident in which he slapped a young man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar. Linking the controversy to PM Modi‘s outreach to Gen Z, Kejriwal said the government could connect with young people by acting against the minister and those allegedly involved in corruption in the road construction.In a video posted on X, Kejriwal mocked PM Modi’s attempts to engage with Gen Z through social media reels and bhajan clubbing events, alleging that such efforts would not work unless the government demonstrated honesty and accountability. He claimed that a newly constructed road in Lakhangarh had started crumbling and that a minister present at the spot slapped a young man who raised the issue.Kejriwal also alleged that Delhi Police had been instructed to protect Verma and demanded action against those responsible for the road’s construction. The minister, however, denied the allegations, claiming that AAP workers had abused his family and misbehaved with them. He also accused AAP leaders of demanding commissions from officials involved in road projects.In a video posted on X with the caption, “Modi ji, let me tell you how you can connect with Gen Z? But you won’t do this”, Kejriwal said, “You do all kinds of drama to connect with Gen Z. Sometimes you make a reel at 12 in the night, sometimes you go to bhajan clubbing, still Gen Z is not able to connect with you. Have you ever thought why? I will tell you why,” he said.Referring to the road constructed by the Rekha Gupta government, Kejriwal alleged that it had started breaking apart soon after its construction.“The Rekha Gupta government made a road yesterday in Lakhangarh, and the people there showed how that road is breaking with just their hands. One of your ministers was available there and slapped a Gen Z guy,” he said.He further demanded the minister’s arrest, along with action against those allegedly involved in corruption in the road project.“Arrest the minister today. Whoever was involved in the corruption on this road, arrest them. If you do these things, you won’t need to make reels at night or go to bhajan clubbing. They will automatically connect with you,” Kejriwal added.The AAP leader also alleged that the police had been directed to shield the minister.“If you save your minister, as I am being told that orders have been given from above to the police to save the minister, and expect that the citizens will connect with you, it won’t happen. The citizens of your country expect honesty and straightforwardness from you,” he said.Later on Monday, Kejriwal said he would visit Tilak Nagar at 4.30 pm over the alleged slapping incident involving Verma and Saheb Singh, who is associated with the team of AAP MLA Jarnail Singh.Reacting to a video purportedly showing Verma slapping Singh, Kejriwal said, “I am heading to Tilak Nagar at 4:30 pm regarding this matter. The road they (Delhi government) constructed there was already falling apart, crumbling, as everyone saw in videos yesterday. Meanwhile, one of their ministers actually slapped a young man.”Earlier, AAP leaders staged a protest on Sunday, demanding the registration of an FIR against Verma. Delhi Police detained AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar and other party workers during the demonstration.

Verma denied the allegations and claimed that AAP workers had abused his family and misbehaved with them during the incident.In a video statement on X, the minister alleged that supporters of Jarnail Singh had verbally abused his family. He also accused the AAP MLA of demanding commissions from officials involved in road projects.Verma said any attempt to obstruct government work or damage public property would not be tolerated. He further claimed that an official complaint and an FIR had been registered against the MLA and his associates over alleged obstruction of public works. (ANI)
