Link Godavari & Krishna rivers to solve Nalgonda’s water woes, says Kavitha | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday alleged that successive govts had failed to complete key irrigation projects and asserted that interlinking Godavari and Krishna rivers, as advocated earlier by former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, is the only long-term solution to Nalgonda district’s water scarcity and fluoride problems.Addressing a presentation at Dindi Reservoir in Nalgonda district, Kavitha criticised the state govt’s proposal to bring water to Dindi from Yedula, claiming the plan was technically difficult and impractical. She said that even Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme was struggling to secure adequate water from the Krishna basin and questioned how additional water could be diverted to Dindi.Kavitha alleged that design changes made to Yellur pump house, including its conversion from an open-cut structure to an underground facility, had adversely affected Palamuru-Rangareddy project. She contended that the available water levels and infrastructure limitations made the proposed diversion to Dindi unviable. The TRS leader maintained that the state should instead utilise Godavari waters through the partially completed Baswapur Reservoir under Kaleshwaram project. Completion of Baswapur and related infrastructure would enable water supply to Dindi and surrounding regions more efficiently, she added. In a significant remark, Kavitha admitted that mistakes had been made during the previous BRS regime in the irrigation sector and said she was willing to take responsibility for being part of that govt. However, she maintained that the present govt had also failed to advance key projects over the past three years.Kavitha demanded compensation of ₹25,000 per acre for farmers affected by drought-like conditions and criticised the govt over water supply and fertiliser availability issues and rising input costs.
