'Surge in popularity after reality show': Tej Pratap Yadav asks for enhanced security from Centre
Tej Pratap Yadav said crowds gathering around him at public events have raised concerns about his safety.

NEW DELHI: Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav has once again sought enhanced security from the Centre and the Bihar government, saying the crowds gathering around him at public events have raised concerns about his safety. In a post on X, Tej Pratap Yadav said his recent appearance on a reality show had increased his popularity, with large numbers of people approaching him in public places to take photographs. He said the crowds posed a risk not only to him but also to the lone security personnel currently assigned to him.“It is a matter of grave concern that the state government has currently provided me with only one security personnel,” the elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad said.Yadav warned that one security guard might not be able to manage large crowds and could also face the risk of having his government-issued weapon snatched. He claimed that he had repeatedly raised the matter with both the central and Bihar governments, verbally as well as in writing, but his security cover remained unchanged.“I once again urge the central and Bihar governments to take immediate cognisance of the matter, considering my growing popularity, the large crowds at public events and the serious security concerns involved,” the JJD leader was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.“Who will take responsibility if an untoward incident involving me or my security personnel occurs? Is the government waiting for something unfortunate to happen?” he asked, calling on the authorities to provide adequate protection without further delay.

The action came a day after he reportedly said he was in a relationship with a woman in a social media post.He later deleted the Facebook post, claiming that his account had been hacked. Lalu Prasad subsequently distanced himself from his elder son over what he described as his 'irresponsible behaviour'. Tej Pratap later formed his own political outfit, the JJD.
