Ramayana: ‘No, you’re the bad guy!’: Yash reveals son’s surprising reaction to seeing him as Ravana in ‘Ramayana’ | Kannada Movie News

Kannada superstar Yash will be next seen playing the demon king Ravana in the upcoming Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic ‘Ramayana’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi. Recently the actor shared an interesting moment from his preparation for the film, revealing how he explained his role to his young son.Yash said his son was initially shocked when he learnt that his father would be playing Ravana instead of Lord Rama. The conversation also gave the actor an opportunity to explain the difference between a character and the person portraying it.According to an IANS report, Yash recalled that the little one was surprised after learning the story of the ‘Ramayana’ and discovering his father’s role.“My son knows who his father is, but now that he knows the story of the Ramayana, he was shocked. He said, ‘No, you’re the bad guy! How can you do that?’ I explained to him that we have to depict the full story for people to truly understand it.”The actor said he had to explain why Ravana’s character is important to the story and why portraying the antagonist does not mean supporting his actions.
Yash explains why Lord Rama is the ideal
Yash also spoke about how he helped his children understand the values represented by Lord Rama. He said he wanted his son to recognise Rama as the ideal to follow, even while enjoying his father’s performance as Ravana.“I had to sit my son down and tell him: in this story, the central figure you must look up to is Lord Rama. Everyone should walk Rama’s path. Ravana may appear grand, powerful, and imposing, but true, lasting victory in life only comes when you embody Rama’s righteousness. I told him, ‘You can cheer for me as an actor in the theatre, but do not mistake the character for the ideal.’”
Son asks Yash if Ravana dies in the end
The discussion became even more interesting when Yash’s son asked whether Ravana loses the battle and dies at the end of the story.Recalling the question, the actor said, “Then he asked, ‘Do you die in the end? Do you lose?’ That was hard. When I signed the project, I was thinking about giving my audience a compelling performance, but I hadn’t anticipated my son’s questions. Teaching him the distinction between an actor and a dramatic role was quite an experience.”
