After SC win in Miyapur land dispute, Revanth eyes monetisation of recovered govt lands
CM Says Rs 50,000 Cr Land Back With State, Recovered Lands To Fund Welfare Schemes

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday hailed Supreme Court verdict in the Miyapur land dispute as a landmark victory for Telangana, saying the govt had regained control of a prime public asset worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore and would use revenues from its monetisation to fund welfare, irrigation, housing and education programmes.Addressing a news conference in Delhi, Revanth said the 550-acre Miyapur land parcel, along with other govt lands recovered through legal battles, would be protected from encroachment and utilised to generate resources for the state’s development.Expressing gratitude to the top court, the chief minister said officials had been directed to immediately secure the land. He added that the govt would discuss plans for its monetisation in the cabinet meeting.“These and other lands freed from the grasp of the encroachers through court orders would be monetised and the proceeds from it would be utilised for extending education of the poor, to complete irrigation projects for water to farmers, for Indiramma housing scheme and other pro-poor schemes for SCs, STs and the downtrodden,” he said.Revanth used the occasion to launch a sharp attack on the previous BRS govt, alleging that former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, his relatives and associates, including Damodar Rao and ‘Goldstone’ Prasad, were linked to attempts to appropriate the valuable Miyapur land. The chief minister further alleged that luxury cars and cash changed hands as part of the transactions and accused the previous govt of manipulating land records to facilitate encroachments.“The previous BRS govt misused the Dharani portal, manipulated revenue records and pressurised some of the officials to facilitate land encroachments. Valuable govt lands were transferred to members of KCR’s family and their associates,” alleged Revanth. The chief minister said the Congress govt had protected govt lands worth nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore at seven locations since assuming office by pursuing legal action and strengthening enforcement efforts.Apart from Miyapur, he cited victories in the Kancha Gachibowli and Mamidipalli land cases, claiming the govt had safeguarded nearly 850 acres worth about Rs 40,000 crore in those areas. He also said the govt had recovered 143 acres at Manchirevula valued at nearly Rs 10,000 crore and protected 106 acres of forest land worth Rs 400 crore in Bhupalpally. Attempts to occupy around 600 acres in Kothagudem were also thwarted, he claimed.Referring to the Hayathnagar reserve forest land dispute, Revanth said the govt had protected 140 acres and initiated afforestation activities there. He alleged that the previous govt had backed those claiming ownership over the land.“These lands will be restored to the respective departments, including the forest and revenue departments and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, wherever applicable. HMDA would prepare layouts for lands under its jurisdiction to mobilise resources for development works and pro-poor schemes,” Revanth said.He said a cabinet sub-committee on resource mobilisation would examine the monetisation of recovered lands and identify projects that could be funded through the proceeds. The chief minister also accused former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao of obstructing officials from surveying land allegedly encroached upon by his uncle, a matter currently under litigation.Questioning the silence of BRS leaders after Supreme Court verdict, Revanth asked why they had not congratulated revenue officials who successfully fought the legal battle. He challenged KCR and other BRS leaders to attend assembly sessions and debate the alleged land encroachments. The chief minister also referred to the Padmalaya Studios and Lanco land cases, alleging that BRS leaders had failed to pursue those cases while in power despite having raised the issues earlier.Reiterating his govt’s resolve, Revanth said Telangana would continue pursuing legal and administrative measures to protect public properties and ensure that resources generated from them are channelled into welfare and development programmes.
