T Cong to plan rally after Dasara demanding CEC quit

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday said they will organise a public meeting accompanied by a march involving around two lakh people after Dasara, demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He said AICC leaders Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal had directed the party to organise the meeting as part of a broader plan to hold similar programmes in two southern states.Speaking informally to the media, Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed confidence that Congress would return to power at the Centre with a strong majority in the next elections. He criticised the BJP govt, alleging that the country had been facing serious challenges since the party came to power and that little had been done for the welfare of ordinary people. He also alleged that loan waivers worth lakhs of crores of rupees had benefited only the wealthy.Reacting to allegations against Rahul Gandhi that he had insulted woman journalists, the PCC chief dismissed them as cheap and petty accusations and termed Rahul Gandhi as a leader above these petty issues by referring to the former Congress chief tying the shoelaces of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.Recalling the BJP’s growth, he said former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior leader Sushma Swaraj had played important roles in establishing the party, questioning whether BJP could have taken root without their contributions.Regarding the upcoming Graduate Constituency elections, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party was making serious efforts to strengthen its position. On the alleged encroachment of 45 acres in Erravalli, Mahesh Kumar Goud said an inquiry was underway to establish who had occupied the land. He clarified that the Congress had no intention of conducting raids on farmhouses, stating that visits to such properties were intended to bring facts before the public and expose those who projected themselves as righteous.BOX:On the recent Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) union elections, he said the polls were conducted because elections had not been held for 15 years. He asserted that Congress remained committed to the welfare of RTC employees irrespective of whether the party-supported union won or lost.
