Hyderabad: Four women were killed and three others injured after the autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a speeding truck near Naspur Gate in Mancherial district on Monday. While two women died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.The victims were among seven women from Gudepalli and Ponnaram villages in Naspur who were on their way to Mancherial for work when the accident occurred. According to police, the auto driver, Prashanth, was allegedly speeding and lost control of the vehicle. The auto veered onto the opposite side of the road and crashed into a truck coming from the other direction.Naspur sub-inspector Mohammed Taheseenuddin told TOI, “The impact left the auto badly damaged. A Soundarya (36) and Chinthakunta Lakshmi (25) died on the spot. Police shifted the injured to the Mancherial govt hospital. Thungari Sumalatha (28) and T Soniya (20) died while undergoing treatment. Two other women, Anusha and Diwyavani, suffered severe head injuries and were shifted to the Karimnagar govt hospital for advanced treatment. Their condition is critical.”The auto driver suffered minor injuries. Police registered a case under sections related to rash and negligent driving and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.Ramagundam police commissioner Amber Kishore Jha said preliminary examination of CCTV footage suggested that the auto had moved onto the wrong side of the road before colliding with the truck. He also pointed to a gap in the road divider that allowed vehicles to take unauthorised turns, which may have contributed to the accident.Jha said the stretch would be identified as an accident-prone zone, and proposals would be sent to the departments concerned to close the divider gap and implement engineering and traffic control measures to prevent similar accidents.
