KTR slams govt over ‘police force’ against Bahadurpally farmers | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Condemning the alleged use of police force against farmers over the acquisition of land for the proposed bullet train project at Bahadurpally, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the party was not against the project but opposed what he termed a ‘real estate business’ on Bahadurpally lands. He assured the affected farmers that the BRS would stand by them until justice was delivered.Addressing a meeting with farmers from Bahadurpally at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, KTR questioned the deployment of a large police force in villages where land disputes are ongoing. He asked why thousands of police personnel were being sent to farmers’ homes if the govt was confident about its legal claim over the land.“If the govt has valid records and documents, it should place them before the farmers. There is no need to use police force to intimidate people,” he said. KTR clarified that the BRS was not opposed to development or the bullet train project and supported developmental initiatives. However, he alleged that the Congress govt was attempting to facilitate a “real-estate venture” in the name of development at the cost of farmers’ interests.“The bullet train can come and development can happen, but we will not tolerate injustice to farmers or misuse of the project for real estate gains,” he remarked. KTR also accused the Congress govt of failing to honour several promises made during the 2023 assembly elections, including assurances relating to land rights and ownership pattas for eligible beneficiaries. He said the govt should implement the commitments it made to farmers and weaker sections instead of creating uncertainty over land ownership.Referring to previous remarks made by public representatives regarding the issuance of pattas, KTR demanded clarity on why the promised land titles had not yet been distributed. He urged the state govt to immediately resolve the issue and provide legal ownership documents to eligible farmers. Assuring them of continued support, KTR said the BRS would fight both politically and legally for the rights of Bahadurpally farmers.
