Eight workers from Telangana missing in Gulf, families seek state govt’s help to trace them | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: At least eight people from Telangana who travelled to countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia for work have been reported missing over the past few months.Families back in the state told TOI that they have no information about their kin and have been running from pillar to post seeking the govt’s help to trace them, but have barely received any assistance. In most cases, the missing person is the sole breadwinner, forcing family members to depend on relatives for survival.“My husband has been missing since June. I don’t know what happened to him. There is no one either here or in Oman to help us,” said Saida. Mohammed Sileman, her 24-year-old husband, went missing just four days after landing in Oman in June this year.According to his family from Cheguntla in Medak, Sileman went there on a tourist visa to work as cleaner. “He left on June 16. Within days, he went incomminucado. Our last communication with him was when he told us that he was stepping out to go to a beach with his roommates,” his distraght wife said, ruing how the agent who sent him there has also washed his hands off the matter.“The agent is refusing to help saying Sileman is no longer his responsibility. His roommates say they have no clue where he is. I don’t even know whom to approach now,” added Saida. With the sole breadwinner gone, she is now dependent on her sister for survival.Officials at Pravasi Prajavani, a dedicated grievance redressal platform of the Telangana govt to address issues faced by Gulf migrant workers and non-resident Indians (NRIs), said eight families approached the platform recently, seeking assistance to trace their missing kin.“In one such case, we even received a mail from the embassy that a person named Alleswarapu Ramesh is being sent back to India, but we don’t know where he is now,” said Bhargavi N, liaison officer, Pravasi Prajavani adding that family members of those missing are really worried as they are clueless about what happened to their kin.Last month Ramesh’s wife, Sunitha, also filed a petition urging the state to trace her husband and facilitate his repatriation to India. A resident of Jagtial, Ramesh has been missing from the UAE since June 16. .In another case, Malut Kotaiah from Kamareddy, who travelled to Saudi Arabia to work for a human resources firm, has been missing since June 30. Similarly, Bhukya Srikanth has remained untraceable since June 7 — about two years after he went to Dubai to work at a firm near LuLu Hypermarket, Baniyas.“I last spoke to my son on June 7. We have been unable to establish contact with him since then. We have also been informed that he has not returned to his accommodation,” said Srikanth’s mother, Sunitha, adding, “Even his manager has not provided any clear information regarding his whereabouts. We are very worried.”A resident of Mallapur, Jagtial, she said that her husband is also in Dubai, but is unable to travel freely to look for their son as his employment visa renewal process is underway.
