Telangana Lok Adalat awards ₹266 crore in settlements statewide | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: A couple from Mahabubabad who had been separated for over three years reunited at the third National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, thanks to timely intervention by the District Legal Services Authority. Ramana, who had sought maintenance from her husband Shravan through legal aid counsel Rajamani, was advised to stand by him after he met with a serious accident. She nursed him back to health, prompting Shravan to welcome her back.The reconciled couple settled the maintenance case before Lok Adalat, where judge K Murali Mohan felicitated them.Among other notable settlements during Lok Adalat held across the state was a 2016 road accident case in which the victim’s family had sought ₹10 crore compensation. Following mediation, Shriram General Insurance Company agreed to pay ₹5 crore, with the cheque handed over to the family. In another road accident case, the insurer agreed to pay ₹1.75 crore to another road accident victim’s family.

Across the state, 4,20,626 cases were in Lok Adalat, including 2,78,335 pre-litigation cases and 1,40,565 pending court cases, providing relief to thousands of litigants.The settlements resulted in ₹266 crore in compensation being awarded to beneficiaries, said Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) member secretary Ch Panchakshari.Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, patron-in-chief of TSLSA, guided the exercise while Justice P Sam Koshy of the Telangana high court and executive chairman, TSLSA, said Lok Adalat was an important mechanism for providing speedy, affordable and accessible justice. Panchakshari urged litigants and advocates to make effective use of the mechanism for mutual settlements.At the Telangana high court, two Lok Adalat benches settled 182 pending cases, with motor accident compensation cases and other matters resulting in Rs 14.81 crore being awarded to claimants.
