Food safety officials suspend licences of 5 units, shut down hostel | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) officials on Wednesday suspended the licences of five establishments and ordered them to stop operations immediately over serious hygiene and safety violations.The action followed an enforcement drive in which food safety officers and police inspected 20 restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, messes and hostels. GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel was also shut for operating without an FSSAI licence.The licences of Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd (Brown Bear Manufacturing Unit) and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant were suspended.During the inspections, officials found heavy cockroach infestation, pest-infested food and fungal contamination in groundnuts at Manikanta’s hostel. Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel had cockroaches, rodents, expired food and poor record-keeping.Hotel Sitara Grand was flagged for pest infestation, expired food and poor refrigerator maintenance. Bake Max’s manufacturing unit had cockroach and housefly infestation, expired food, spoiled vegetables and an unhygienic cold-storage facility. Mandi King was cited for poor refrigerator maintenance, improper food segregation and spoiled vegetables.Officials collected 20 food samples for testing and discarded spoiled vegetables and pest-infested raw materials on the spot.Improvement notices will be issued to six establishments and show-cause notices to four others. Further action, including penalties, will follow the investigation.
