Telangana high court directs DGP not to stop BRS MLAs from entering Assembly | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Taking a serious note of the alleged police high-handed behaviour towards BRS MLAs during the ongoing assembly sessions, Telangana high court on Monday directed Director General of Police (DGP) not to restrain or prevent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators from entering the Legislative Assembly to attend the ongoing eighth session.Justice T Madhavi Devi also directed DGP to conduct an immediate review, identify the erring police officials and personnel involved in the alleged incidents, and initiate strict action against them.A comprehensive inquiry report regarding the disciplinary measures taken against the responsible officers must be submitted to the court, said the judge.Further, clarifying the boundary of executive authority, the court held that any enforcement or disciplinary action regarding Assembly rules falls strictly within the domain of the Assembly Speaker, not the police force.Justice T Madhavi Devi passed the directions while hearing a lunch motion writ petition filed by BRS MLA and Deputy Floor Leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav.The petitioner approached the high court seeking urgent intervention against police personnel who allegedly obstructed BRS legislators from entering the Assembly premises on the opening day of the session.Srinivas Yadav urged directions to the Home Secretary and DGP to restrain police from blocking legislators and sought an inquiry into the officials involved in preventing opposition members from exercising their legislative duties.The high court further issued notices to Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, Hyderabad police Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Khairatabad), and directed them to file their counters detailing their response to the allegations raised in the petition.
