Big bureaucratic rejig likely, 6-8 districts may get new collectors | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A major IAS reshuffle is on the cards in Telangana, with the state govt weighing changes in several districts and key departments to address vacancies, reduce additional charges and improve administrative efficiency. The exercise, expected later this month, could see six to eight district collectors transferred, while a review of senior-level postings is also under way.While speculation continues over a cabinet reshuffle, official sources said the govt has already begun preliminary work for a bureaucratic overhaul. The move is being driven by the completion of two-year tenures by several district collectors, the need to fill important vacancies and concerns over the performance of some officers.

Sources said the chief minister’s office has completed an initial assessment and is likely to take a call after the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise. The draft electoral rolls have already been prepared, while the final rolls are scheduled to be published on Oct 19. The assembly’s monsoon session is also set to begin on Sept 7.Among the collectors who have completed or are close to completing two years in their districts are Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah, Jagtial collector B Satya Prasad, Kamareddy collector Ashish Sangwan, Warangal collector Satya Sharada, Bhupalpally collector Rahul Sharma, Wanaparthy collector Adarsh Surabhi and Rangareddy collector C Narayana Reddy.The govt is considering shifting Narayana Reddy to the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, regarded as one of the state’s key postings. Sources said the govt is satisfied with his handling of land acquisition for major projects, including Future City, greenfield expressway, industrial parks and the proposed bullet train corridor. The govt is keen to complete land acquisition for these projects in the coming months.Apart from district-level changes, the reshuffle is also expected to address vacancies in several departments. Sources in the govt said chief minister A Revanth Reddy and revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy are reportedly unhappy with revenue principal secretary DS Lokesh Kumar over issues relating to 22A prohibited properties and what they view as inadequate monitoring of the matter.While the govt is also concerned over the growing number of contempt cases involving financial issues, finance principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania is likely to continue for the time being.Several senior officers are currently handling multiple departments. Chief secretary Sanjay Jaju continues to hold additional charge of the industries and commerce and information technology departments. IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu is understood to be seeking a full-time officer for the departments.Commercial taxes commissioner M Raghunandan Rao is also serving as secretary, mines and geology, while special chief secretary M Dana Kishore is simultaneously handling panchayat raj and rural development and serving as secretary to the governor.Kishore, who is due to retire in Oct, is likely to receive an extension. Another senior officer, special chief secretary Arvind Kumar, is also set to retire in Oct. Special chief secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh is handling multiple assignments, including flagship welfare schemes, corporate social responsibility initiatives, tribal welfare and handlooms and textiles.If the govt decides to hold elections to the GHMC, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations, along with Khammam and Warangal corporations, some civic administrators could also be moved. GHMC commissioner RV Karnan, who has been in the post since April 2025, is likely to be shifted in line with Election Commission norms.CMC commissioner Srijana and MMC commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy, both appointed about six months ago, are expected to continue. Warangal commissioner Venkanna, who was posted only a few months ago, is also likely to remain in the post.
