45-year-old man’s death sparks tension in Kothagudem | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Jinkalagudem village of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district on Saturday after relatives of a 45-year-old man, who died after being allegedly run over by a car, gathered outside the accused’s house with the victim’s body. According to Palvancha DSP R Satish Kumar, the deceased, Shaik Maulana, and Shaik Ismail (33), both residents of Jinkalagudem under Burgampadu mandal, had a dispute over a woman. Police said the dispute escalated on Tuesday when Ismail allegedly rammed his car into Maulana on the outskirts of the village with an intention to kill him.Maulana sustained severe injuries in the incident and was shifted to a local govt hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. Based on a complaint, Burgampadu police registered an attempt-to-murder case against Ismail and arrested him. He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial remand. Maulana’s condition remained critical and he died while undergoing treatment on Saturday morning, police said. Following his death, police altered the case from attempt to murder to murder. The death triggered tension in Jinkalagudem as Maulana’s relatives and others took his body to Ismail’s house and staged a protest. Police said some items outside the house were set ablaze during the protest.The house was locked at the time of the incident, and Ismail’s family members had not been staying there since his arrest following Tuesday’s incident, police said. On receiving information about the protest, police rushed to Jinkalagudem and brought the situation under control. No one was injured in Saturday’s incident, DSP Satish Kumar said. Police have intensified security in the village to prevent any further escalation and are investigating the circumstances surrounding Maulana’s death and the subsequent protest.
