Bjp Criticism Of Rahul Gandhi: ‘Politics of anarchy’: BJP attacks Rahul Gandhi over police station protest | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday criticised leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for staging a dharna outside the Parliament Street Police Station, accusing him of disrespecting the rule of law while seeking an FIR over pellet gun injuries suffered by a student during a July 20 protest.Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said an FIR had already been registered over the incident and that the matter was being investigated. He also pointed to a high-powered committee constituted by the Supreme Court to probe the incident.“Most importantly, the people who were victims approached the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court itself constituted a high-powered committee to look into the matter,” Prasad said.He said the committee was headed by a retired Supreme Court judge and included two other judges, a former CBI director and another senior official.“So, whether or not shots were fired will itself be a matter of investigation before such a high-powered committee. Then what is the point of all this? Rahul Gandhi, do you have no respect for the rule of law?” Prasad asked. He accused the Congress MP of creating “anarchy” by staging a protest without permission or prior information.“Can you simply do whatever you feel like, go anywhere, sit on a protest and start creating anarchy?” he said.
BJP says police already probing incident
Prasad said Rahul was sitting on a dharna at Parliament Street Police Station without permission or prior information. He said police had informed former Congress president that an FIR had already been registered over the incident and that it was under investigation.“It is very unfortunate that LoP Rahul Gandhi does politics of anarchy,” Prasad said.He also said the Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee was examining the matter.“Rahul Gandhi, don’t you want to respect any law?” he asked.Prasad further alleged that the Congress was “stuck” over its position on the national song Vande Mataram, and condemned the protest led by Rahul.
Rahul Gandhi seeks FIR over alleged pellet injuries
Rae Bareli MP continued his sit-in outside Parliament Street Police Station along with Sahil Lochab, who Congress alleges suffered pellet injuries during a July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar. Several Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid, Kumari Selja and Devendra Yadav, also reached the spot.Congress sources said Rahul would continue the protest until an FIR was registered. He had earlier accompanied Lochab to the Delhi Police DCP office to press for registration of a case.According to Congress sources, Lochab had submitted a written complaint on August 14 but was allegedly not provided an I/O number or acknowledgement. The complaint was pursued again on August 17.In a post on X, Rahul accused home minister Amit Shah of being “scared of justice” and alleged that Lochab was attacked with a pellet gun while peacefully protesting.“The FIR will be filed. A judicial inquiry will take place. And action will be taken against everyone–from top to bottom–who is guilty of this brutality,” Rahul said.
